Learning basic geometry concepts through paper folding II - Secondary School of Paranesti

Students of the Secondary School of Paranesti learn basic geometry concepts through paper folding. This is our second activity for the eTwinning project "Let's GO (Geometry & Origami)".

Activities:
1) Make a rectangle into a square without a ruler
2) Draw the square diagonal
3) Draw a triangle median
4) Make two triangles
5) Make a whale

1 March - "Mărţişor"

Mărțișor is a Romanian celebration at the beginning of spring, on March the 1st in Romania, Moldova, and all territories inhabited by Romanians. Alike, though not identical customs can be found in Bulgaria (see Martenitsa), while similar ones exist in Albania and Italy.

The name Mărțișor is the diminutive of marț, the old folk name for March (Martie, in modern Romanian), and thus literally means "little March". It is also the folk name for this month.

Mărțișor is names for the red and white string from which a small decoration is tied, and which is offered by people on the 1st day of March. Giving this talisman to people is an old custom, and it is believed that the one who wears the red and white string will be strong and healthy for the year to come. It is also a symbol of the coming spring.

A very popular symbol in relation to Martisor is the snowdrop flower, which is also considered in Romania symbol for spring time.

Introduction

Two spanish students have decided to introduce their school and welcome every body involved in the project.

Algebraic Identities with origami

In Spain, we carried out an activity to explain the demonstration of two important algebraic identities:

(a+b)²=a²+2ab+b²

(a-b)²=a²-2ab+b²

For such purpose we built two different figures using origami: a boat and a rooster

1st activity - Basic geometry concepts & paper folding

The first activity of our project is about basic geometric concepts. We will define plane, point, particular plane, point, ray, line, and line segment.
But, before saying more about our activity, do you know who is the person in the painting? Also, do you know what "geometry" means?

Choosing the best title for a project is hard. That's why all partner classes discussed and brainstormed ideas about the title of the project.We collected the best ideas and organised a poll to select the most suitable one for our project. In total, 64 students and teachers took part in the poll and most of them selected "Let's GO! (Geometry & Origami)" for the title of the project. See in the screenshot below the results in detail:

So, from this day we apply the title "Let's GO! (Geometry & Origami)" to the blog replacing the old one "Origami & Maths". Also, we change the URL of the blog from "http://mathematicalorigami.blogspot.com/" to "http://letsgeometryorigami.blogspot.com".

We are looking forward for further activities!
